experiments in LOVE, the good witch of the South, and hidden messages in water

the other night my man and i went out for dinner to eat sushi in little tokyo. we sat at the bar because we like watching them create. the chef was really not in a good mood. he wouldn’t make eye contact, had a scowl on his face, seemed pissed off… he kept angrily putting the sushi down right in front of my love. so i thought i’m going to try a little love experiment….. this might sound strange to some but those that know how energetically we are so connected will totally get this… i concentrated on sending him love… i imagined love radiating from my heart and it surrounding him… i did this for a couple of minutes… and then all of a sudden he looked at us in the eyes and smiled! (and he started putting the sushi in front of me)!!! my boyfriend called me a witch… well if i am, then i’m the good witch of the south! lol! it was kind of amazing.

i did the same thing when we went to eat Indian food the next day. our waiter was in a bad mood and very annoyed with us for sharing a meal… when dre ordered a beer, the waiter said, “are you going to share that too,” inferring that we would be cheap customers. i kindly said, “no, i’m not drinking.” i then did the same energetic, positive love intention towards him. the next time he came to our table, he was kind and smiling and even said to me “you are very sweet, like an Indian girl, not like an American girl,” which was his way of complementing me. my boyfriend was again amazed at his transformation all from me sending him loving energy.

if you’ve ever read about dr. emoto and the hidden messages in water, then you know how powerful our thoughts are. and if people respond to words and touch, why wouldn’t they respond to our thoughts? it’s output of some form of energy. dr. emoto does experiments where he’ll have a group of people say a prayer or think of a concept- war, love, peace, etc. and then focus that thought energy on water. he then magnifies the water crystals. the ones that were LOVE crystals look beautiful and perfect. the war water crystals look distorted and “ugly.” so when you think that we are made up of water, it is clear that our thoughts are able to affect us and others profoundly! fascinating!

elevated and high and filled with love… a magical Hawaiian night

there was a rainbow in the shape of a circle around the moon. i’d never seen that before….the last night in Hawaii we shared a magical night. we (bushwalla’s band and the makepeace brothers) were invited to a be a part of a little party at a self-sustainable, magnificent home with all kinds of spiritual, unique, beautiful souls. here i encountered some profoundly spiritual experiences.

when i say self-sustainable, the couple living there had planted  fruits and vegetables and pretty much just lived off of the land, also they were working on providing their own energy naturally. what an inspiration! we were welcomed warmly and shown the garden and the house. natanna, the hostess, was such a natural, pure, gorgeous Hawaiian goddess. she and i became immediate soul sisters! she shared her art with us- which she channeled from another dimension i’m sure of it! so beautiful, colorful, otherworldly, her paintings told stories. she had one painting that was an homage to “strawberry fields forever” that was spectacular. i wish i could show you her work. when she’s ready i wanna help her share it with the world….

mainly we were outside, musicians playing, people hula hooping, dancing, singing, it had a 60s free-spirited, earthy vibe. a super tall man, i think he was like 9 feet tall, cut down coconuts for us to drink from! que rico! it was unreal.

there was a woman at the party who was sick with a brain tumor. she and her husband give relationship/love counseling to couples. we ate these delicious cookies she baked with loving, healing intention. outside we were asked to hold hands and form a circle around her and offer a blessing. dre said he felt as if electric currents were running through his hands and under his feet. it was special to send this lady collective, divine healing energy.

also, the other caregiver of the house, wanted his friend  to give us a blessing with an instrument called a didgeridoo, the band was told to lay in the grass in a circle with our heads facing inward towards each other. our crazy friend daniel (aka magala papa) who was new to these kind of experiences, thought we might get sacrificed….lol!  even though i’m open-minded to these kind of things, i thought for a split second that they might be doing some sacred ritual where i’m somehow impregnated by the moon or something… but i freed my mind as the very gifted musician, played a unique melody and rhythm for each one of us, starting in between our hips (at our bottom chakra) and worked his way up to the crown of our head. you could feel the vibration, the air, and the energy as he played over you. it was powerful and spiritual. i felt elevated and high and filled with love. i looked over at my man feeling even more connected to him and grateful to share this with him. for days after i felt opened up. even my voice came from a different place. it’s amazing how spiritual music can be, that an instrument used in such a way can move me so deeply. i wish everyone that experience with music…

focusing on the love…

last saturday night my house was filled with so much love… so much warmth, openness, connectedness… the perfect music mix courtesy of DJ Christian Gamez, more than enough varieties of alcohol, comida rica, and even some mistletoe that under i received an absolutely delicious kiss from one of my best friends… there were good hearted people having interesting conversations… everyone at ease… i set that intention of love and connection as i was getting ready for our holiday fiesta. everyone kept mentioning what great friends i have…i do! i am extremely fortunate that i have so much love in my life.

yet today i woke up the next day feeling sad. despite all the love in my life, the sadness concerning the relationship with my father has been weighing heavy on my heart and mind lately….  it has been almost 3 years since i’ve heard from him. and it just doesn’t make any sense to me… i spoke to my grandfather, my father’s father, yesterday. we’re not very close and don’t talk that often but i called him to give my condolences for his sister ila’s passing. (she was a lovely lady who shared her passion for reading with me which inspired my lifelong obsession). my grandfather brought up the subject of my dad and almost sounded as if he was crying. now this is not a man that shows any emotion… in fact if something emotional is brought up he usually finds a way to change the subject in an often abrupt manner, usually about the weather…. he said my dad hadn’t talked to him in years as well and he still sends him birthday cards and even left him a message saying that he loved him… but still he never hears back from him…he sounded so wounded… then he suggested that we change the subject… one of my friends said well you know it’s not just you that your dad distances himself from, he treats others that way too. but that really doesn’t give me any peace. it’s just sad. as his only child i’ve often wished that i could be the exception…

but i know i can’t get caught up in that sadness. i’ve done all i can do. given all i could give. yes it makes me sad that i don’t have a loving father in my life. but i know the only choice i have is to focus on the amazing LOVE that is in my life! especially my incredible mother who’s profound love more than makes up for his lack of love, the love my martinez family shares, the love of my sisters (my beautiful girlfriends), the love of my man, my love for music. so that’s what i’m doing focusing on the love… and then one day that’s all that i’ll feel… love.

consciously creating 2010

last year i didn’t make any new year’s resolutions…  and though it turned out to be a great year, i’m learning of the power of INTENTION and i know that i need to implement more intention in my life because i want to do even more AMAZING things!!!!…. and intention is the first step to manifestation.  setting our intention- allows us to verbalize and get specific about what it is we want in our lives and gets us in the mind-set of how to get there while also connecting us energetically to the desired outcome. now there are so many goals i have for the following year that are great goals (like learning to dance samba or playing guitar better, make a dance EP, work on my foreign language skills, etc. etc.)… and i think it’s important to have goals. i have many! but as one of my LAAFS ladies suggested it’s great to have some BIG  main intentions to have intense focus on for 2010. so here are my intentions for 2010! i’m taking it to the next level! this is my declaration to the world!

* i intend to receive financial abundance through music (my performances, placements on film/tv, album sales, etc.) where all my needs are more than taken care of. My passion, my music, is my life’s work!

* i intend to travel the world, recreational and through my singing!

*i intend to keep growing as an artist of living. i will live a revolutionary life, full of love, creation, music, dance, passion and fearless self-expression.

and in alignment with intention is also the practice of visualization- many superstar performers from singers, to athletes, to successful business men, to astronauts…  practice visualization and i believe it’s  a valuable tool as well… it gets you in the feeling of what you are hoping to manifest which aligns you energetically. and when you are in life’s various situations the experience isn’t foreign to you, you are fearless… visualization helps us to consciously create our own world. it helps us to begin with the end in mind. the more clearly and vividly we imagine the details the deeper we will experience it…. emotions are evoked within you as if you have already experienced what it is you desire. the more we visualize the more we change something within us… our thoughts change, our words change, our behavior changes, our perception changes, our outcome changes… i will be living out the script that I have written for my life and you will be living the script that you have written for yours, rather than us living by the programming that has been written into our hearts and minds by the external.

tonight in our manifestation group meeting we verbalized our intentions to the group and help a sacred space for each intention. we meditated together. we focused love energy towards each of the intentions for our soul sisters. we also let our imagination explore possibilities for each other. in doing this we found it was almost easier to visualize for others as we don’t get caught up in our own bullshit, self-sabotaging  doubts…. but the shared intention allowed us to have breakthroughs in our own visualizations- perfect for 2010 being a breakthrough year! this exercise was powerful. the energy was thick in the room. even my friend’s dog reacted to it!  we can make intentions for ourselves which is amazing but it’s even more powerful when we share it with others and let it expand into the collective consciousness. and visualization and intention isn’t just about achieving personal gain… we can use our imagination to transcend self and create purpose filled lives of contribution… we can consciously create a better world for us all!!!!

just finished my 5+ hour manifestation meeting!!!! LAAFS!!!! incredible night! we got deep with our missions! i feel like changing the world Oprah style! today was POWERFUL! the manifestation blog from yesterday i originally sent out as an email to friends and had so many super positive responses… the message hit a core with people… inspired them to do things they would normally not do… think of things in new ways… reconnect with their spiritual essence. what’s even more amazing is that several people moved by the message passed it on to their loved ones who in turn responded with enthusiasm, inspiration, and love!!!! and it hit me that by me making the choice to put this positivity out into the world i was a catalyst of love… and by those who were inspired choosing to pass on the knowledge and inspiration they are catalysts and so on and so on and we all can be a part of this current of love… receiving and giving and receiving and giving! it’s fucking beautiful!!!!! made my day!……then as i was eating some brazilian pineapple that the rock band (that’s recording in Dre’s studio) left over here, i was missing my brazilian man… and he called me and we had a conversation that rocked my world… he was dropping spiritual knowledge/understanding/compassion on me gandhi style, opening up in ways that shocked me… a layer was peeled.. and it showed me the infinite possibilities and perspectives in love relationships… and i wonder what brought this energetic shift and powerful realization, what was making him hold me in this higher reverence? i guess sometimes people have to be away from you to truly appreciate you and understand you in profound ways…i mean how many people truly understand us?  or was he feeling my experiences and thoughts and feelings here and somehow tapped into that energetically? fascinating! i couldn’t get off the phone with him (though i was running late in cooking dinner and my beans did suffer- they have to sit for at least an hour for ultimate sabor)…i’m excited to keep growing and learning in love! i feel like i’m meant to teach others of love though i may not get to everyone in this lifetime. and speaking of love… though we did speak of our INCREDIBLE accomplishments of our group and our focus for 2010…we got on the subject of sex…. as should be expected with these sexy goddesses!  i love how candid some of the group is… i mean nothing is off-limits and i adore it… the questions came up – if a man is more endowed is he typically less talented or motivated with going down on a woman? (cause he feels he doesn’t have to work to please a woman)… and does size really matter?… also, isn’t a man who is uncircumcised more sensitive in feeling? … the answers were great! i wish we had video taped this conversation… real sex would’ve blushed… what a bizarre magnificent day… full of currents of love, break throughs, good food, deep conversation… i love life! we all have had those moments in life where we feel like hell but we truly create our lives… i’m living proof of that… i’ve developed consciously the beauty that is my life. now i must rest. i have a hula hooping video audition tomorrow! so random! i love life! wishing you the ultimate creation of beauty in your life!!!!

Puerto Rican Cookery

because i want to send some deliciousness out into the world i’m posting a version of my  abuela’s treasured recipe for camarones Boricua style… it’s a bit more health conscious but the same sabor

it’s difficult for me to measure precisely because i cook by feel so feel free to adjust (if you like less or more olives for example-do what you feel is right for your magnificent meal)…

camarones

1 lb. jumbo shrimp (healthier than regular shrimp because jumbo shrimp have a digestive track)

2 cloves elephant garlic (great garlic taste but a bit milder)

1 sweet onion

3 organic roma tomato

4 table spoons chopped green Spanish olives

almost a handfull fresh cilantro

2 table spoons Goya’s Recaito

2 table spoons Goya’s Sofrito

or

2 packets Sazón Goya Culantro y Achiote

2 packets Sazón Goya Tomate y Cilantro

—

2 teaspoons capers (optional)

sunflower oil (canola oil is evil!) or olive oil

*heat sunflower oil, add garlic and onion, saute until golden brown

*add cilantro, tomato, olives, recaito, sofrito, (or add the packets instead of the recaito y sofrito) capers and simmer for 5 minutes  or so and stir occasionally until it’s a beautiful blend…(NOTE: this is a beautiful base (for chicken, beef/bison, eggplant, tofu)…

*add shrimp and saute until cooked (shrimp doesn’t take long to cook- don’t let it get rubbery)

*add real salt (ancient sea salt you can find this at Whole Foods) to taste and red pepper for some spice

add to your favorite rice and beans… typically in Puerto Rico we cook white rice and add sazon that colors our rice… it’s amazing…but since i’ve been eating more health consciously i cook basmati or jasmine rice… also, you can use the base above for your beans as well. i prefer red kidney beans (cook them on low so the sabor seeps in).

reflection on bringing M.U.S.I.C. into the world!

Reflecting back on the album release show I feel truly elated! It was one of the best nights of my life… It exceeded my expectations of what the show would be… The room was filled with so much love. It was like I was getting married! Seriously, my cheeks hurt from smiling! The band sounded incredible- we had only had 2 rehearsal and I had only run through the set with them twice on the day before the show. As my girl Aneesah says, “it wasn’t perfect but it was real.” And not only was it authentic- the performance was elevated- I felt fully committed to everything on stage. I even verbalized my intention to the audience, that I was going to give them love and inspiration… And they gave that beautiful energy in return. This was my first “real” show with songs I’ve created (with Dre) and my first time really leading a band. And I felt so at home… Having my NC girls and my mom there made the night even more special- their energy, their (loud) voices , enthusiasm and their dance moves definitely helped to ground me… And I absolutely adore the guys in the band (you can read more about each one of them in the interview blogs.) … they are like family- the connection is deep… And as my friend Quetzal says, “you can’t pay people to care” and they care deeply…I’m ready to go on tour with all of them! What also meant so much is that  people I admire so much musically said that they loved my voice live even more than on the album (which they thought was great as well)! What an honor! After the crowd started dying down, my girl Oshana bought a bottle of champagne and we got down on the dance floor! I really can’t find words to express this night… Thinking of all I went through to get this point…. the fear and doubts I had to overcome, the many many sacrifices, staying focused, staying positive, staying strong, staying motivated, enjoying the process of creation and recording, avoiding the disbelievers and the plastics,  and learning to believe in myself… It was such a incredible journey in which I encountered my darkness and my light. I grew so much from bringing the album officially into the world- it was a dream come true…. I’m so so grateful! I’m so excited for what’s to come!

fearless manifestation!!!!

i am enamored with the concept of manifestation. making our dreams a reality. after listening to a program on oprah and friends on xm radio, i really became fascinated with the power of collective intention and had the idea to start a manifestation group… my friend jill had the same idea the same day- talk about alignment or coincidence (aren’t coincidences God’s way of staying anonymous???)… we started the group with 2 of our soul sisters shar and aneesah. what’s incredible about these ladies is that they are all extremely intelligent, spiritual, loving, uniquely and divinely talented. we had to find our rhythm as a group… we first met every other week, then every 3 weeks, sometimes we could only make the time for once a month… but we would make the time… we learned to be communicative, open, sharing, and committed to helping each other manifest in all areas of our lives… career, relationships, spirit, and abundance… a typical meeting consists of  updating each other on what’s going on in our lives, sharing our goals and main focus, and then giving each other support or ideas to achieve our intentions… we would also share what we would do to take action to reach our goals before the next meeting… and we hold each other accountable… not in a judgemental way… but a loving encouraging way… and sometimes if you can’t muster the energy to do it for yourself you can get motivated to do it for others…some weeks we’d come in thinking we had done absolutely nothing then after talking with each other found the value in the action we did take…  it is divine connecting with other women in such a deep way… and beyond just the concept of sharing ideas and supporting each other… there is something energetically powerful that happens when you put people together in this way… it’s uplifting in a way that is beyond comprehension… 

i encourage you to start your own manifestation group or womanifestation group! make it up as you go along…find what works for you… maybe it’s more career focused or spirit focused or maybe it’s all of the above… maybe you have a yearly retreat with the girls… meet in different places (homes, restaurants, the beach, events, etc.), maybe read a book collectively and  get deep with it…sign up for a seminar together.. see what feels right for you…. i really love helping others reach for their dreams… i really believe in infinite possibilities and that we are LIMITLESS… sometimes we just get in our own way… i really believe that miracles can happen everyday… 

i had my spiritual guru dr. wolf share with our group about manifestation… here’s some of the notes from the meeting…

-USE WHAT YOU LOVE TO ACHIEVE A HIGH VIBRATION/FREQUENCY IN ORDER TO MANIFEST!!!! I love this! So when you are dancing, acting, writing, singing, playing, making love, enjoying your shower, whatever it is that brings you joy…etc. also focus some energy/thoughts/good feelings on what it is you want to manifest!!!! Makes so much sense! Every moment (while doing what you love) you can add more purpose and meaning towards other things you want to manifest in your life. 

CREATION and REST CYCLES-remember that you are always fluctuating in periods of creation and periods of rest so honor these cycles. Take the time to appreciate what you have created. The rest is necessary for the creation…. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Also, remember you are timeless! So you have no limitations except the ones you put on yourself.

-BEING TRUE TO YOUR EMOTIONS-embrace when you are feeling down. Being true to your emotions helps you through anything you may be struggling with. 

-”Measure 10x (preparation phase) and cut once” – so when you’re ready to manifest then you’re fully prepared. Don’t rush it.

-We are energy 1st, so form is patterned by the energy (word/actions must all have purpose)… be aware of your words/thoughts/actions.

-TRUST- not just believe-TRUST in the unknowing, TRUST your decision to come here (to this planet, to this state, to this city), TRUST your power, TRUST your ability to manifest!!!!!!!!! When we lose our trust we lose our connection to all that is… 

-ONLY THOSE TRUE TO THEIR SELVES AND PURPOSE CAN MANIFEST SOMETHING THAT WILL CHANGE THE WORLD!!!! (and don’t we all want to change the world for the better!!)

commUNITY!!!!

today I noticed that the word UNITY is in the word community which brought me to  deeper contemplation of community… community is truly us coming together as one…and though human beings are very individualistic we cannot deny how interdependent we are…. and we have to honor the power of commUNITY! i’ve been experiencing the benefits of commUNITY more and more as my awareness has grown in commUNITY… a few weeks ago I shared my first Shabbat dinner with some friends and saw how beautifully tight the Jewish community is- and how coming together for tradition and spirituality really strengthens them as a people. also, without my artistic community, I would not have been able to have such an incredible album- the brilliant musicians that played on M.U.S.I.C. play for world famous artists and shared their talents because they are part of my community! what a blessing to have a community! the super genius creative web designer for M.U.S.I.C., Josh Kohlmeier- part of the community… the phenomenal photo shoot by Piper Ferguson (who has done shoots for superstars) took the time to do a shoot with little ol’ me- cause she’s part of the community… the psychedelic goddess album art was created by Jon Marro all because he’s part of the community… I didn’t always have a community…I knew that I wanted to connect with like minded artists- artists about uplifting and inspiring others through their medium… artists that were positive, supportive, creative, loving… and thus I put that intention out into the universe. Oooh UNIverse (another word that speaks that we are one (one=uni))… I created a manifestation group with my girls (more on that later) to have a positive female force where we share our dreams/hopes/challenges/ideas and help each other in so many ways… commUNITY is a beautiful thing! if you don’t feel you have a community find one or better yet create one!  as amazing as we are as individuals- together as a collective we are POWERFUL! ONE LOVE!
